I took this pic of a newly hatched Cicada with my phone's camera. Had I thought sooner I would have snapped a shot as it was actually emerging from its former self (which is the brown husk it's hanging from). The wings as it unfurled were a bright blue/green mix and appeared quite moistn. The insect stayed in place hanging there next to the ripening plum tomato to the right for about an hour. At that point heard the prolongued shrill the Cicada creates by rubbung its wings together. The song lasted for about a minute after which I came out to take a look only to discover that it had flown away leaving its husk behind still clinging to the tomato plant.
